In the last winter quarter, I usually had long meetings for the int'l MKT class.
Sometimes I was really tired of those endless meetings and felt lots of pressure.
This quarter, the teams i belong to are almost consisted of native speakers.
I feel much relieved cuz american ppl usually dont wanna spend lots of time in meeting, especially this very last quarter.
Most of the time, two hours would be the maximum if it's not a very urgent assignment.
If a meeting is decided to be a 2-hr meeting, then it would probably end after 2 hours as well.
I dont hv to be wondering when on earth i could go home all the time.
I hate this feeling.
So i like this american way. Do what u can in the limited time, or your efficiency would decrease marginally as time passes by.
And then there would be very little progress even u extend the meeting time.
But this week, our ad team learned some lessons from this meeting way...
this seemingly efficient method still doesnt work well at some time.
We had a market segmentation assignment of Junior Mints.
In each short meeting, it seemed we all had some progresses step by step.
We felt everyone was on the same page as well.
At the very last meeting, though we didnt hv a very very clear conclusion, we thought everyone could feel and catch what kind of customers JM would target in in the future.
We decided one person started to write the paper, and the rest took turns to revise the paper.
But when it was my turn to revise the doc, i just felt not all of us were on the same page. Though we had a common ground, everyone had personal perspective of the ideal market seg. It made the paper kind of messy.
After this probrlm was brought up, various emails were just flying around all the nite.
It seemed we were holding our meeting through lots of emails. It even made the person responsible for compiling poorer.
We did spend some time and everyone made some compromises to come up a final target seg.
However, it was quite an inefficient way by discussing through emails...

The very last conclusion of the assignment was not the target seg anymore; instead, it was that...
"WE HAVE TO HAVE MORE IN PERSON MEETINGS IN OUR FUTURE ASSIGNMENTS."
"A CLEAR CONCLUSION STILL HAS TO BE ENSURED DURING THE IN-PERSON MEETING."
well, i indeed learned some through this experience.
